It's offered in black, blue, pink, red, or white, and its matte finish has few visual markings. The most striking thing about the Thump's appearance is the signature Audio hexagonal speaker grille pattern. Beneath this grille, we see a single driver so yes, you're getting mono sound that takes up roughly the entirety of the cylinder's width.

The bottom panel is rubberized to help prevent the speaker from moving across tabletops; the bottom panel also houses a power button and a Bluetooth pairing button. Along the lower edge of the outer panel, from left to right, there's a pairing status LED, a 3. There are no onboard controls for playback or volume, nor is there a built-in speakerphone—all music and call management to be handled on your mobile device itself.

Performance Unsurprisingly, on tracks with intense sub-bass content, like The Knife's "Silent Shout," the Thump distorts quite a bit.

At high volumes, it also will scoot around surfaces due to bass vibrations—but only on tracks with seriously deep lows. Reporting these givens is more due diligence on our part—it would be surprising if a speaker this size and price could handle the deep rumble of this track.

On tracks with less bass in the mix, like Bill Callahan's "Drover," the Thump fares far better. At top volumes, even Callahan's baritone vocals can be a bit much for the driver, which starts to distort ever-so-slightly, but at more modest levels, his vocals sound clean and still retain a decent sense of low-mid richness.

The primary sound here, however, is brightness—the strumming of the guitar and the treble edge that gives his voice definition are the two most dominant aspects of the mix. This is a very crisp, sometimes overly sibilant sound. On Jay-Z and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild," the kick drum loop's attack gets plenty of high-mid presence to retain its sharp edge and slice through the layers of the mix. The sub-bass synth hits that punctuate the beat lack much depth—you hear, instead, their raspy top notes.

The vocals sit front and center in the mix, occasionally sounding too sibilant but more often than not, possessing the ideal amount of crispness and mid-range body.

As is the case with many inexpensive Bluetooth speakers, the Thump has a tendency to lop off the opening second of a newly navigated-to track, which is frustrating.
